This book consists of six essays, each covering a different period. They deal specifically with church history, that is the founding of parishes and dioceses and the supply of priest and bishops. In approach and merit they vary considerably, some being fairly lengthy, quoting extensively from original sources and giving detailed footnotes, while others are brief summaries with few, if any, references. The volume has many illustrations but no index.
